All Toughbook models focus on providing clear display in daylight and protecting the most vulnerable components of a mobile computer, namely, the hard disk, keyboard and display panel. All units in the range can all go the distance when it comes to bumps, kicks and drops. They units fall into three groups; the Business Rugged, the Medical Rugged group and the All Rugged group.
Take, for example, the Business Rugged models CF-C1 and CF-51. Of these two convertible tablet PCs, the CF-51 is the larger with a 15.1 inch display panel. It weighs in complete with one battery pack at 3.4 kgs (7.5lbs), more than twice the weight of the CF-C1 (which weighs about 1.47 kgs or 3.2 lbs). It is designed to survive liquid spills, free-fall drops and even being stepped on by a titan.
The robust CF-31 Toughbook incorporates a ground-breaking LCD screen that is reputed to be the brightest in the industry while at the same time delivering low reflection. Combined, these features produce superior display even in bright ambient daylight.
The CF-31 can survive a drop of 180 cm (71 inches) without damage. The hard drive is positioned on a shock-absorbing damper that absorbs shocks. The computer is encased in an unbreakable magnesium alloy casing. The casing is sealed with a flexible elastomeric sealant that prevents water and dust entering the casing to the most stringent industry standards (IP65). All this protection is achieved at low weight. The CF-31 weighs just 3.72 kg (8 lbs), it is only marginally heavier than the CF-52 which comes in at 3.4 kgs (7.5 lbs).
Business Rugged Toughbooks are enclosed by a robust magnesium case that is unbreakable. The case is equipped with four shock-absorbent cushions made from an advanced material. Designed to optimally distribute pressure. This means the units can withstand pressure of up to 100kgs. The sensitive LCD display and hard disk are safe from breakages or other damage. The hard disk is also prevented from external shocks or severe vibrations.
The Toughbooks come with Microsoft Windows 7 32-bit operating system, 250 GB of hard disk memory and 2 GB of main memory expandable up to 6 GB (DDR3 SDRAM (6 GB maximum). The central processing unit (CPU) is an Intel Core i5-520M vPro Processor (2.40 GHz with Turbo Boost up to 2.93 GHz).
In conclusion, Panasonic Tablet PCs offer style and functionality for mobile computer users. The CF-52 is a relatively high power consumer. It draws about 45 watts of power when operating and as much as 100 watts when recharging in ON state. The computer uses up to 0.7 watts of power even when it is on OFF state; this powers the computer internal clock.
